Power and Grace
|
Traveling in Africa allowed me to see lions, leopards and cheetahs in the wild firsthand which greatly inspired me artistically. To me, one of nature’s miracles is the eye of the cat, and thus it becomes a very important part of my drawing. |
First Outing |
I begin the drawing with an eye, which becomes the focal point from which all the other facial features are brought into alignment. Soft shading builds up the curving volumes in the heavy bodies of the big cats, developing natural modeling and rich color qualities. |

Safety in Numbers |
As a child growing up, we always had cats in our house. I started out at a young age drawing our own cats, and in time naturally gravitated toward the big cats, becoming mesmerized by their great beauty and grace. |
