"My interest in nature is rooted in childhood when I was raised
as an only child. Entire summers were spent at my grandparents farm
on rural Vancouver Island, B.C. I was fascinated by the wild life
all around me.

When I was little, tree frogs, tadpoles,
garter snakes and butterflies were my constant companions
during the summer months and I have been drawing and painting
as far back as I can remember. This interest in the natural
world increased over the years and is repeatedly reflected
in my art. |
| It is my wish to project through my work an awareness
of beauty as I see it, whether in a spider's web, a zebra's
eye, a fern frond or a breaking wave. Beauty exists at every
turn. One has only to take a second, closer look. |

Throughout my art career I have experimented in many different
fine arts media, including watercolor, charcoal, pastels,
ink and wash to name a few. But it wasn't until I got serious
about colored pencil that I became aware of its potential.
The versatility of this medium gives me the greatest amount
of control over what I'm trying to accomplish, particularly
when it comes to detail. |
| My Pencil technique
allows me to make my art very realistic which I could not
achieve to the same degree with other media. I found that
with practice and hard work, one can produce a smooth, textureless
look, contrary to how work with colored pencils is generally
perceived." |
